I am currently in Vienna, presenting a paper with Richard Hayden at IFIP PERFORMANCE 2013, on the derivation and computation of transient and steady state bounds for mean field approximation. Check the paper here.

The eight edition of the BCI summer school finished today. About 50-60 participants, great lectures, good science!Thanks to all lecturers and participants!

Today I started a short course on fluid and mean field approximation for PhD students in Computer Science at IMT in Lucca. The web page of the course, with course material, can be found here.

Tomorrow, Monday, September 9, 2013, the eigth edition of the BCI summer school will start in Trieste. The summer school, whose acronym stands for Biology, Computation, and Information, this year is focussed on cancer bioinformatics and cancer modelling. The three main lecturers are Francesca Ciccarelli (IFOM Milano), Pietro Liò (Cambridge), and Luigi Preziosi (Politecnico di Torino). Friday there will be a workshop with other invited lecturers. Today I have been elected as member for three years of steering committee of QEST, the international conference on Quantitative Evaluation of SysTems!

I am just back from the social dinner of QEST in Buenos Aires, where together with Guido Sanguinetti from the University of Edinburgh, I got the Best Paper Award for the article "Learning and Designing Stochastic Processes from Biological Constraints"!

The new web site is online, after many years of starvation. It is still in a design stage, and new parts will be available soon.
